Can a newcomer really beat the company that has been playing in the field for over two decades? That is perhaps the question that we have in our mind when we are talking about Casper Mattress and Tempurpedic. Of course, Tempurpedic has been in the industry since a long time ago. Even though there are many new competitors coming into the competition, Tempurpedic continues to stand still. Many people have trusted the quality of Tempurpedic. Well, on the other hand, Casper Mattress is among the companies that use a new approach to marketing and distribution. Instead of supplying to local retailers, Casper Mattress sells its products solely through online channels – thus pressing down the prices very significantly. So, how do these two mattresses compare against each other? Should you choose Casper Mattress or Tempurpedic? Below, we will see the comparisons between the veteran and the newcomer based on several aspects. Continue reading!
Casper Mattress vs. Tempurpedic: Mattress Construction
Let us start by comparing the construction of each mattress. The construction of the mattress is very important because it will affect the whole characteristics of the mattress. Casper Mattress is the slightly slimmer one of the two, having an overall thickness of 9.5”. It features four layers:
The first layer, which is the uppermost one, is 1.5” thick and is made from responsive poly foam. This layer is designed to provide the softness, feel, and bounce, as this is the one that comes to direct contact to the sleeper’s body. This uppermost layer is very breathable, with very low heat retention. It is also highly responsive that it changes very quickly to contour different body positions.
The second layer is the memory foam. It is also 1.5” thick. This layer is designed to provide some support, contouring, and pressure relief. It is placed under the comfort of the poly foam to minimize the heat retention.
The third layer is the support foam. Also 1.5” thick, it is made from transition poly foam. It is firmer than the upper layers, but not as firm as the base. It acts as a transitional layer.
The fourth layer, the lowermost one, is the base. It serves as the foundation layer of the mattress. It is 5” thick, made from high-density support foam.
On the other hand, the Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme Breeze mattress has a total thickness of 11.5” from top to bottom. It also features a construction of four layers:
The top layer a.k.a. the comfort layer is 2” thick, made from visco elastic memory foam. This layer delivers a very pleasant soft feel. It also contours well, providing a hug and the feel that Tempurpedic’s mattresses are known for.
The second layer is also 2” thick and made from visco elastic memory foam, but it is firmer. The slightly firmer feel here makes excellent transition and support.
The third layer is 4” thick, made from polyurethane foam. This is the main transition layer between the comfort layers and the foundation layer, providing great support and stability.
The fourth layer is 3.5” thick, made from polyurethane foam. This is a dense layer that acts as the base of the mattress and provides deep compression support.
Casper Mattress vs. Tempurpedic: Cover
Casper Mattress comes with a two-tone color scheme, featuring a white top surface and gray sides. The cover is incredibly soft and breathable, very comfortable. It is also a little bit stretchy, ensuring that it will always look neat by snapping right back to place. The top surface is made from 100% polyester, whereas the gray sides are made from a combination of polyester and polypropylene. It looks nice, but, unfortunately, the cover is somewhat too thin. Be careful when moving the mattress because the cover is not very rugged.
Tempurpedic’s cover is quite more complex, featuring a sharp design. Even though it also has a similar two-tone design, it has stepped it up with a cool blue trim and angular edging. The blue trim actually conceals a zipper that enables you to remove the top part for easy cleaning. The cover is made of 94% polyester and 6% spandex, and the top part is made from the Tempur-Breeze material designed to manage temperature regulation.
Casper Mattress vs. Tempurpedic: Performance
Casper Mattress is somewhat firmer than the Tempurpedic mattress. This goes even more noticeable if you are a heavy sleeper, due to the increased sinkage bringing you closer to the foundation layer. Nevertheless, Casper Mattress has a very nice feel. Unlike traditional memory foam mattresses that may feel like quicksand by gradually sucking you down, Casper Mattress responds very quickly. It contours and supports the body very well. It also has quite a dramatic hug feel, which is great if you like to snug in your bed. The bounce is excellent. People like the fairly bouncy character of the mattress because it is a nice addition to amorous activities.
The Tempurpedic mattress, on the other hand, is noticeably softer, yet without as much sinkage. It has the true medium feel. However, the sinkage may increase after you lie for some time. On the positive side, the hug feel is very balanced. The lighter areas of the body also sink in, allowing for excellent overall pressure relief and contouring. It is supportive, especially for people who sleep on their sides. Nevertheless, the Tempurpedic mattress is not as bouncy as Casper Mattress – which is only great if you don’t like a bouncy bed.

Conclusion
So, Casper Mattress or Tempurpedic? In general, Casper Mattress can give you the best value. The overall quality is decent, yet the price is much cheaper than the other option here. The cover is not as durable, but the contouring, support, and bounce are great. However, if you prefer a mattress with the true medium feel, or if you prefer a true memory foam mattress that is not as bouncy, the Tempurpedic mattress can be your choice.
